Titans players ENTERING MAKE-OR-BREAK games in preseason week 3!
The Tennessee Titans are set to play in their final preseason game on Sunday as the team travels to New Orleans to take on the Saints. Though many fans are itching for the regular season, Sunday's preseason finale will be vital for players fighting for a roster spot or a higher place on the depth chart.
With that being said, here are a few Titans players entering make-or-break games versus the Saints.
Edge Rusher Rashad Weaver
Weaver was expected to have a bigger role on Tennessee's defensive line this season, but the former fourth-round pick has had a disappointing training camp and preseason. The 26-year-old has posted just two quarterback pressures and zero sacks in 47 snaps this preseason and has been completely outplayed by seventh-round rookie Jaylen Harrell.
Though Weaver will still likely make the roster, a solid performance on Sunday would be highly beneficial for the former Pitt standout's positioning on the depth chart.
Cornerback Tre Avery
Avery has had a sloppy preseason thus far, allowing a 97.05 passer rating when targeted and continuing to look like a liability. The 27-year-old is fighting for the final few spots at corner, and another lousy performance could be lethal to his chances of making the 53-man roster.
Gabe Jeudy-Lally and Eric Garror are also competing for the last couple of spots at cornerback with Avery, and it will be a battle to watch closely this weekend.
Backup Offensive Tackles
The Titans' backup offensive tackle situation is horrid, as Geron Christian, Leroy Watson, John Ojukwu, and Jaelyn Duncan have all been subpar this preseason. Christian has been the best of the bunch, but that isn't an achievement to celebrate.
Tennessee will likely keep four offensive tackles on the active roster, meaning two of the linemen mentioned above will make the team, as JC Latham and Nicholas Petit-Frere are locked in as the starters. Sunday's contest will be the deciding factor in this horrific competition, but there's no way Brian Callahan and Ran Carthon are elated with the depth at tackle.
Running Backs Julius Chestnut and Hassan Haskins
There is a scenario where Tennessee keeps four running backs, but either way, Chestnut and Haskins are entering pivotal games against the Saints. Both tailbacks bring different assets to the table, as Chestnut is the overall better rusher, but Haskins provides more on special teams and has more in-game experience despite missing the entire 2023 season.
If the Titans can find a way to retain both, they'll do it. But it all depends on the final preseason game and how roster cut day transpires on August 27th.
